My name is Kiran Pereira and ever since I can recall, I have been passionate about the environment. It began as a child with loving animals more than humans because I thought they were far more kind and only killed for food, while man was a beast beyond measure. That stark point of view has mellowed over time. I now see people in as much need as the environment. Much as we’d like to deny it, the fundamental factor that can bring about change in the masses is definitely economics. So today, my interests are focussed on all three dimensions that (I learned sometime ago ) are the pillars of sustainability.
I worked for 10 years in the behavioral training and facilitation space. All along, I nursed a desire to do more for the environment. I’m happy I began this journey of following my heart. In my last role, I worked with Infosys Technologies in the Green Initiatives and Sustainability space, creating awareness about this cause through campaigns, newsletters, classroom training, e-learning programs, assisting in writing the sustainability report. I also worked with the eco-groups of the organization across the world. It was very energising to be a part of such volunteer action with like-minded individuals.
I am a recent Graduate Student at King’s College, London. I did an MSc in Environment and Development. It was fascinating to meet people from so many different countries and cultures and see the world through their eyes. Water is a field that is particularly close to my heart.
What I share here is a) my personal opinion and it is not necessary that people/ organizations I write about share my views on various topics b) intended for a lay audience who are perhaps interested in this field and are looking for some more inspiration, pointers for action. 10 years ago, I recall writing to the newspaper advice column and asking them if one could make a living in the environmental field. I’m happy that i’ve started taking action now on things that matter to me. Nothing can be more fulfilling than turning inspiration to action, i.e inspiraction!
